Catherine in Ottawa, Canada says... Hello, I caught your show last night (April 24th) at the Ottawa Police Association. WOW! The musicianship I saw and heard, not to mention the great harmonies, and just the love of the music that you each have really came through to me. To be honest I wasn't a huge bluegrass fan before last night. Listening to each of you adding your gift to the band well I would now consider myself a beginner bluegrass fan. Thanks to each of you for introducing me to another style of music I am going to love!
Jimmy And Mary T. in Charlottesville, VA says... We enjoyed the festival so much at Glen Maury Park. Thanks for a great line up. See ya next year. Jimmy And Mary T.
Bill McMurray in Waterloo, Canada says... This note is to thank you so very much for the wonderful show you gave us in Waterloo, Mar. 25, and in particular for the special attention you gave to our dear friend Roland Gagne. He enjoyed your music and it gave him a much needed emotional lift.
Mary & Mike Robinson says... Mike and I just finished the First Annual Carolina Road Bluegrass Festival at the Glen Maury Park in beautiful Buena Vista, VA. This is a very lovely place nestled in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. The festival was very well run with good Bluegrass bands for entertainment. We hope that it will grow in size as it is a wonderful facility and Lorraine Jordan of the Carolina Road band is a very gracious hostess. She, along with her volunteers, did a great job making everyone feel welcomed. The Gospel Sing this morning was fairly well attended for a first Gospel Sing at a new festival for us. We were so grateful to have the members of the Carolina Sonshine band come out and be our "Jam band" this morning. They are a fine entertaining Bluegrass band from North Carolina that we had the opportunity to meet while doing a festival in Kissimmee, FL. We brought the music this morning and Kenny, the bus driver for the Carolina Road Band brought the message. He preached a very good message on the parable of the "Prodigal Son".
Pam Warren in Milan, MI says... She rolled into the KC Campground near Milan, Michigan last weekend, parked her bus, set up her table to sell CD’s, and put on four great sets, and three of her band members have played with her less than eight months. She runs at least two businesses, a driving school and a touring bluegrass band. Last weekend Papa saw her bring a boy, about 12 or 13, into a music vendor’s tent. She bought a bridge (and perhaps some other parts) for the kid’s mandolin. She took the time to restring the mandolin with the new bridge and make sure it played all right. She (and her band) were seen in the campground, jamming with the attendees. She brought several of them on stage with her in her final performance Friday night to show their talents. They were not all future stars, but all enjoyed the festival, the music, and the company of others like-minded. At the end of last year there was some controversy concerning the circumstances under which some members left her band. It might be pertinent to note that many bluegrass bands have revolving door membership rosters. It is not unusual to see changes, and mostly no one thinks much of it. I really have no clue of the cause of the band breaking up, and I’m inclined to believe that there are as many sides to a story as there are people involved. I wrote a short post in support of her on a bluegrass forum I read regularly. At that time we had seen her shortly after the departure of the older members; she had a makeshift band performing at a show for New Year's Eve. Here’s what I thought then, and I think now. For some reason woman doing jobs or activities that are normally associated with the other gender attract more criticism than a man in similar circumstances. Competent business people can be successful wherever they choose, by applying consistent, proven, professional techniques. Expecting to get the result you desire is not a sin. As my Dad used to say, whoever pays the bills calls the shots. If you have a chance, I hope you will see Lorraine Jordan’s Carolina Road Band somewhere soon, and find out what I’m talking about.
David Stewart says... CR, I just wanted to tell you that I saw and heard you for the first time at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival this past weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed your performance and chatting with Josh after the set. I purchased a few CDs over the weekend and yours (SouthPort) is my favorite. Congratulations on your wonderful work.Hope you see you again, maybe at Gettysburg in the spring.
Don & Judy Haynes in Ankeny, Ia says... Loraine, How wonderful...Don and I wanted you to know how proud we are all of you.Congratulations. Best Wishes, Don and Jody Haynes
Kenneth Garris in North Carolina says... My wife and I are 4 year bluegrass fans. We go to a lot of concerts. We have been following your band for years now. This was our second year at Garner United Methodist Church. It’s one of the best deals around! Both of us could not stop commenting on how great Carolina Road sounded Saturday night. Those twin fiddles are something else! Keep the EXACT same play list going…(except “Backup and Push” would be good.) I like David but sharing the wealth gives your band so much more depth. The fiddle player gives Carolina Road a new sound that nobody recognizes…It helps keep the fans on their toes. If Carolina Road keeps sounding like that, you can count on seeing us more often! Thanks for a great evening and performance!
Barney Rogers says... Lorraine, Just wanted to say Congratulations, on your IBMA win for recorded event of the year. Fantastic. Keep up the good work.
Bob Hayes in Kluane Mountain Bluegrass Festival says... Hi Lorraine Jordan, congratulations on winning IBMA recorded event of the year for back to the well. You must be very pleased and happy. I am still enjoying Carolina Road very much.
Bruce Rawling in Alebrta, Canada says... Hi Lorraine, I just found your website as I was listening to bluegrass radio on the internet! I sure enjoyed your site! It looks like you have been very busy. That's great! I wish you guys the best with your music! Hang in there and remember how much happiness music brings to people just trying to get through this life. Sincerely, A Fellow Music Lover
Ted Lehmann in New Hampshire says... We haven't seen you in a few months and the group sounded tighter and stronger than ever. Ben Green is a solid addition to the group. Your singing and playing, as well as you stage presence has really gone to the next level. You exude confidence and it comes through in all aspects of your performance -presentation, singing, and playing.
Jane Baxter says... Hey Lorraine!!! Congrats on the win and all of the success. I have the utmost admiration for you and this accomplishment. It is no small feat to create and manage a project like this one, and everyone is very deserving of the accolades. I have so enjoyed hearing Mindy talk about the experience (laughing lots) and I am sorry I wasn't there to witness it. I am very glad to have met you this year, and appreciate the very thoughtful comments you left on my space. I believe we are all very lucky to be able to play music and experience one another's talent and the folks that enjoy hearing the music. Hope to see you soon and ya'll take care out on the road!
BMP Magazine in www.bluegrassmusicprofiles.com says... Lorraine Jordan 7 Carolina Road A Stop In South Port Towne By: Robert Steelman A Stop In South Port Towne is another fine release from the NC-based Carolina Road. You will notice differences from the band's previous release most notably personnel changes. Lorraine Jordan has once again managed to assemble excellent musicians. Madolinist Jordan joins David Guthrie on guitar, Benny Greene on banjo, and Josh Goforth on fiddle. Tim Hall and speical guest Zack McLamb share bass duties. Jordan and Guthrie showcase their songwriting talents, penning nearly half of the 12 cuts. A Beautiful River of Life is another composition from Tom T. and Dixie Hall.
Shirley in Nashville says... I have always loved Carolina Road but the new sound and new members are the best. Lorraine Jordan has really moved up in the bluegrass world. Already won an IBMA award! I think this is the band to watch in 2007! If you have not seen Carolina Road recently you better check them out to see what is happening!
Mary and Jimmy Boone in Statesboro, GA. says... Just wanted you to know how much we enjoyed Carolina Road. This was our first Blue Grass festival and not our last for sure!
Roger Martin in N/A says... Loraine, Roger Martin here, I'd like to congratulate you on hiring Jerry Butler as your new lead singer! Jerry has one of the finest and most recognizable voices in bluegrass today. I'm sure he will be an asset to your band.
Ted Lehmann in NE says... Lorraine - Irene and I both enjoyed your performance at Richlands HS last night and hope you get a chance to rest up and feel better before you hit the road again. When we say your performance yesterday, we thought, "Well, here come the grown up." We think Jerry Butler addition to the band changes the dynamic in a nice way, adding a touch of humor as well as his first rate flat picking. Ben's banjo playing sounded as good last night as I have ever heard it.
Jeff Russell in Grass Strings Band says... It was a great Festival this weekend in Burlington. To say that you have been in the business for 31 years and then look out and see other pickers there that were playing at the same time that you were, and seeing the improvements that they have made from the early years is quite a site to behold. Just think, it seems like yesterday that You and Kim Garner, were playin with Bluegrass 78 and we were all playing local festivals and just enjoying it all. Now you are known around the world, and recognized for your accomplishents in the bluegrass field, with promotions, songs, productions, and helping others. Continue on with your vision, much luck and great success to you in the years to come.
Phil Humbaugh in _ says... I just got back home from Burlington and I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the festival this weekend. The bands were great but what really impressed me was the organization. I know much hard work went into this by all concerned. So I wanted to tell you what a great job y'all did.
Anne, Marylyn, Donna, John, in Florida Festival says... Hi Loraine; It is so great that God has placed great people like you on this earth to touch the hearts of so many. You have a great band and a wonderful entertainer but more important, what a great person. It was our pleasure to have the opportunity to be entertained and meet you as a friend. I have attached a picture of one of the sister (Anne) wearing the shirt with pride. Thank you, looking forward to seeing you again, Anne, Marylyn, Donna, John, and Dick.
Linda Roberts in Eureka, Illinois says... I just got home from a bluegrass festival at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois. This is the first bluegrass festival I have ever attended. My husband loves bluegrass & would go to festivals by himself & I would stay at home. He just started teaching himself how to play the mandolin a few months ago. He has always played the guitar & was self taught. Your band was totally awesome. My husband enjoyed Lorraine's musicianship & also all the other band members. Your whole band is truly talented. Your stage presence & the love of your fans & the music you play makes you one of the best groups I have ever heard. I can't wait to see you again.
Dave & Leslee Watson in PA says... Lorraine - We just wanted to thank you once again for spending some time with our son, David Watson, and for allowing him to pick with you and your band on stage at the Laurel Highlands Bluegrass Festival in Ligonier, Pennsylvania on Saturday. His dream is to someday become a professionl mandolin player in a bluegrass band, so getting to meet you, getting to see your bus, and picking with you must have been like being in heaven to him.
Deborah Young in WV says... Hello Lorraine! Just wanted to say thanks for all you did for my son Jordan Young at summersville,WV. We met you last year there and Jordan has notstopped talking about you and the band. You have been a great inspiration to him. Jordan had told Tiffany { the girl that sang} all about you and how nice you were. I really did not think they fully realized the influence you have on the young people playing the music until they met you for themselves this year.... well to say the least you havea great many more fans from that show this year. now they areall talking about how great you treated them this year...well we told them all year long about you but now they know!!! I wanted to thank you myself for keeping all the dreams alive. those young people are the future of our bluegrass music and you are very much helping them along. I had no intentions of staying late on friday nite as I am a nurse and had to get up for work this am at 5am. and work a 12 hr shift.... well Jordan found out you were doing open mic and he had to stay....LOL.... I just had to let him do that.I got home at 2am and back up at 5am forwork!! well momma made it today by GOD'S good grace to work and back. Had a great day too! We were all laughing at Jordan last nite as he must have walked up the ramp to the stage area a hundred times before you said it was time. he loves the music and it is really inside him. I won't ever try to stop that. Brandon Green is teaching him banjo too and he is going to try to help get Jordan into East Tenn. in the music program there when he is out of school. Brandon went to school there and thinks itwill be good for Jordan. I wanted to say thanks last nite but had to get home. You and Carolina Road are AWESOME!!!! I thank GOD every day for all the blessings He gives to us and you are one of those special blessings. Thank you from The Youngs. Wewill be seeing you again at Bluegrass in the Smokies in August..
